Is lodging included in the price?

No.  See Hotels & Transit or information on select convenient hotels. There are many hotels in downtown Raleigh and nearby to suit every pocketbook, frequent customer plans, individual preferences, etc.

Is airfare included in the price?

No. You are responsible for your own travel arrangements. Since most pre-purchased airfares are non-refundable or are expensive to change, consider whether to purchase travel insurance in case an emergency necessitates you cancelling your trip.. Please review the cancellation policy below before signing up for the trip.

Is food included in the trip price?

Select meals are included (see Programs for details) and options for additional group lunches and dinners will be available (see program details). This allows participants the freedom to determine their own meal times, places, cuisines, and price ranges.

Are there other costs?

Any incidentals for hotel, all lunches, most dinners, and transportation costs are the responsibility of the individual.

Will you accept a deposit?

No.  Full payment is due when registering.

Must I pre-register?

Yes.  You must pre-register for the program. We limit participation to 16 to ensure the best possible experience for everyone. We will maintain a waiting list once the program is full.

Registrations will close no later than 1 month before the program start date.

Those purchasing the Research Development Plan option must purchase that option and provide the needed materials no later than 6 weeks before the program start date.

Your program confirmation materials will reiterate all of these details and provide date-specific information.

I have a non-genealogical travel buddy, is that okay?

Of course.  Since the program fee covers whomever is signed up, a traveling companion can share whatever accommodations you set up and enjoy the greater Raleigh area and beyond.  There are many things to do.

I’ve already researched at 109 E. Jones Street, why should I participate in the pre-trip orientation?

The orientation will provide up-to-date information about both the research program and also any need to know (e.g. is the legislature in session and so parking will be more challenging) kinds of information.  Additionally, sometimes things change (e.g. the library now permits bags to be brought in).

How many other researchers are there?

The group is capped at 16 individuals.  This size ensures that attendees have ready access to Vickie and Diane as well as the staff in the library and archive.
